Chlorine is the only globally recognised disinfectant for swimming pool water. It removes potentially lethal pathogenic organisms and ensures that pool water is safe to swim in, even in so called ‘fresh’ or mineral water pools.

Although chlorine is recognized worldwide as an effective disinfectant with prolonged action, many confuse chloramines with chlorine. Chloramines are chemical byproducts resulting from the reaction of free chlorine with substances such as urine, sweat, feces, skin oil, cosmetics introduced into the pool water by visitors.
Chloramines cause eye irritation, skin, respiratory diseases of visitors to swimming pools and maintenance personnel, reducing the effectiveness of free chlorine.
Chloramines, not chlorine, are responsible for the characteristic strong smell of chlorine in the pool. If left unchecked, chloramines can accumulate to toxic levels, which then contribute to poor air and water quality, especially in indoor pools.
Due to the destruction of chloramines on the electrode of the built-in freshwater chlorinator, the air and water of the pool do not contain chloramines and always remain clean and safe.
